We are a friendly group with members from the village of Ladbroke and the surrounding area. We welcome people at all levels of skill, from complete beginners onward, and all kinds of cameras from mobile phones to professional SLRs. Our aims are to share our enjoyment of photography, broaden our interest and improve our skills. Visitors are welcome and there is no pressure to join on the first visit.
During the dark months we meet in Ladbroke Village Hall for talks, competitions, workshops and discussions. At other times we have outings to photogenic locations with a view to getting interesting or unusual images. We have exhibited at local events including the John Turner Arts Festival in Southam. Twice a year we meet up for a social event, usually a pub meal or outdoor barbecue/buffet.

Talks
Our speakers are mainly club members but occasionally we have external experts such as Rusty Ardwinkle, Peter Alvey and Sue Dudley, all of whom gave us valuable advice on their specialist areas of photography. Our members have given talks on a wide range of subjects as varied as photgoraphy under water and with drones. We have also had displays of photographs from around the world: China, Sri Lanka, Chile and New Zealand to name but a few.

Competitions
Our competitions are not fiercely competitive – but we all want to win! We do not have judges; members submit up to three prints on the selected subject, then all those present vote for their favourites. Beginners can come out on top.
The subjects are very varied: Abstracts, Action, Autumn, Birds, Eggs …. Xmas

Workshops
We hold workshops on new ideas, techniques and equipment. There have been sessions on portrait photography, action shots, depth of field, macro photography, using studio lighting and painting with light. They are often followed by a competition in which we try to put the new knowledge to best use.

Discussions – “Phototopics”
Members provide up to ten digital images which are projected onto the screen for discussion. The photographer describes the picture – where, when, how and perhaps why is was taken – and anything special about the way the subject has been treated. The atmosphere is always supportive, sometimes with suggestions for improvement.

Outings
Weekends in spring and summer evenings are good times for a wander and a chance to look at scenes with a photographer’s eye. We have had ‘walkabouts’ in urban settings: Warwick, Oxford and Leamington Spa. For rural scenes we have photographed the bluebells at Farnborough, the birds at Bourton-on-the-Water the locks at Hatton and the sculptures at Dorsington Garden
